An A&R representative (rep) is part of the Artists and Repertoire department of a record label.
The rep is tasked with discovering and signing new talent and managing artistic development of existing producers and artists signed to the record label.
New producers are generally discovered by listening to demos submitted to the label, going to events, clubs and festivals and doing research by reading music blogs, news sites and social media.
